Highlights : Arsenal 3 - 0 Sevilla

Thanks to Arsenalist. I'm just too lazy to compile my own highlights today ...

Breaking News : Moaninho Leaves Chelsea

Jose Mourinho has sensationally walked out of Chelsea to what is being projected as decision by mutual consent. This is close on the heels of a 1-1 draw with Rosenborg at home last night. He apparently texted senior players of his decision. Mourinho signed a five-year contract in 2005 and quashed speculation in January that he would leave Stamford Bridge in the summer by saying he was happy to see out his deal if he received "real support" from the club.

The Premier league will surely miss the "Great One" for it won't be that entertaining as it was since the past two years ... no i don't mean the football but his antics .. right from the arrest due to his dog to his speech about eggs and omlettes ... Lets see who lands up at the hot seat now .. my bet is on Guus Hiddink .. Another far fetched possibility would be Jurgen Klinsmann .. For Moaninho though, i think he's jumped off the ship at the right moment to grab the Portugal national team position, something he always wanted to be a part of ...

Good luck to him and good luck to Chelsea .. Let the fun begin ...

Arsenal 3 - 0 Sevilla

Arsenal 3
Fabregas 27'
Persie 59'
Eduardo 92'

Sevilla 0

What a second half for Arsenal .. A nice kickoff to this year's Champions League campaign with a 3-0 victory over a seemingly tough opponent in Sevilla. A lucky goal in the first half from Fabregas shot taking a big deflection from Escude into the goal. Seems we're practicing set pieces nowadays because there was yet another goal resulting from a Fabregas free kick .. Wonderful finish by Van Persie to make it 2-0. At the end, a good steal by Hleb and a nice layup to Fabregas, who passed it to an open Eduardo with all but poking the ball into the net to make it 3-0 in injury time.

The better things coming out of this game were performances by Sagna and Flamini. Very Solid. On the other hand, Almunia and Senderos gave the team quite a bit of a scare. They need to improve their performances if they want a place in the first team. Especially Senderos who somehow has to make atleast one mistake every game.

Man of the Match : Matthieu Flamini

Highlights to follow soon ...

Halftime Update : Arsenal 1 - 0 Sevilla

Arsenal 1
Fabregas 27'

Sevilla 0

A lucky goal to say, with an off target Fabregas shot hitting Escude on the back and going into the goal. A decent first half performance put in by Arsenal. A game going on at a great tempo. Second Half should be fun to watch...

Till then, laters ...

Preview : Arsenal v Sevilla

Champions League, Group H match
Date: Wednesday, 19 September
Kick-off: 1945 BST
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Squad News: Phillipe Senderos is available for selection in the Champions League. The back two of William Gallas (groin) & Emmanuel Eboue (ankle) and keeper Jens Lehmann (elbow) are again out.

Likely Squad:

It's seemingly the toughest test Arsenal have to face this season and for a long time till we face Liverpool in the Premiership on 28th October. Arsenal are hot from the win at WHL and are enjoying their stay on the top for the first time since October 2004. Sevilla, after overcoming the grief of losing Antonio Puerta, have since won all the games with the same scoreline : 4 -1. Former Spud Kanoute as well as Luis Fabiano along with Kerzhakov. The high profile Chavski target Alves has got a great engine and it will be fun to see who comes out on top : Alves or our own Gael Clichy. It seems that Juande Ramos is throwing in Fabrico Fazio, a 6 foot 5 Argentinian under-20 defender, to counter the threat of Adebayor. It would be a good battle to see who wins the air supremacy. Ofcourse, everyone will be watching out for Fabregas & co to see how they perform against a good Sevilla side that has won the last 2 UEFA Cups .. I just cannot wait for the best matchup of this champions league round to commence ...

Prediction: Arsenal 1 - 0 Sevilla

Good Luck Me Gunners !!

Cheers !!

Breaking News : Usmanov increases his stake in Arsenal

Alisher Usmanov increased his stake in Arsenal to 21% today. Now he is the second largest shareholder in Arsenal after Danny Fiszman. It is believed that he has bought most of this stake from Landsdowne Partners and also from a number of minor shareholders directly off the market. The price per share was the same as what was paid to David Dein for his stock holdings (£8,260 per share). It will be interesting to see what develops from here on as there have been rumors that Stan Kroenke has told the club that either sell the club to him or he sells his stock to Usmanov. If Usmanov gets hold of Kroenke's share, he will be well over 30% which is required to mount a bid. This development has created an air of uncertainty around the club, especially with Arsenal thought to become the 2nd highest earner this year after it declares its earnings on Monday.

The funny part to all this saga is that while many supporters, including myself to a certain extent, don't want our beloved club to be sold to a russian billionaire, Arsenal Supporters Trust (which holds a small stake) is warming up to the idea of a takeover. I hope it doesn't go through. Even if it does, better that Kroenke buys the club rather than Usmanov. Well thats my viewpoint, but I am sure most of the people would be feeling likewise.

Cheers
